Now you will begin writing your essay.
Follow these directions and use the sample sentences to guide your sentences about the topic that you selected.

  1. Introduce the topic that you are comparing (general)
    • example: Gone by Michael Grant and The Loners by Lex Thomas both take place in settings that greatly influence the novels.
    • **Please be aware that titles of books are always italicized.
  2. Write another sentence that is slightly more specific (you might need more than 1)
    • example: Gone takes place in the Fallout Alley Youth Zone, also known as the FAYZ; The Loners takes place in McKinley High School, which has been quarantined due to a virus.
  3. Claim/Thesis Statement/Main Idea (specifically state what you are comparing/contrasting)
    • example: While both of these settings are enclosed (filled with characters that cannot leave) the reasons why they cannot leave differ, as do a variety of other factors that greatly influence the settings, the characters, and the outcome of the story.
  4. Roadmap Statement (tell me where you’re going with your essay – what will your paragraphs be about? You might need more than 1)
    • example: Some other important factors that differ between the settings of these two novels is the ages of the characters stuck inside, the process of leaving, and the main obstacles that are present inside.

    Welcome Baby Henry!

    Baby Henry David was born on Wednesday, April 18th, 2018, weighing 8 pounds and 4 ounces and measuring 20.5 inches long. Baby Henry came early because Mommy had sudden onset of a disorder called HELLP Syndrome and the doctors felt the best treatment for everyone was to make an early entrance! Maybe we can visit in June after all!
