Do Now
No written Do Now today
5-10 minutes Sustained Silent Reading (SSR) Time
SSR Rules to Remember (Choosing a Book)
- Carefully a select a book from the school or public library, book store, Amazon etc. (Go on a "date")
- It must be a "book" -- no magazines or newspapers
- It must be something you are interested in (choose a genre you prefer)
- It must be something your parents would allow you to read, if asked.
- It must not be a book you are reading for another class.
- It should not be a book you read before.
SSR Rules for In-Class Reading Time
- If you leave your book at home, choose another book from my shelf for the day (you will not have time for a "date"--do not spend more than one minute selecting a book)
- Stay in your seat
- Do not do your homework
- Do not talk
- Do your best to read, un-distracted, for the whole time (5+ minutes)
- Write in your SSR log when you finish (we will not start this this week)
- Read at least one book a month.
- Complete an SSR Project for each book (don't worry about this until mid-October)
- Set goals for yourself and reflect on how you are meeting them.
- Create a reading plan.
